september design MUSINGS from a PORTLAND INTERIOR DESIGNer
My favorite season by far, September always feels like a quiet reset. The air shifts, routines settle back in, and homes seem to crave a fresh start too. It’s historically been a season of contrasts for me as well: warm yet cool, light yet dark, cozy yet vibrant. It’s a time that inspires balance and creativity, which makes it the perfect moment to rethink your spaces.
As a Portland interior designer, I love helping clients capture that fall feeling in their homes, whether it’s layering cozy textures, refreshing a living room with warm lighting, or creating functional layouts that bring calm to the chaos of daily life. Autumn design is about embracing opposites: focus and flexibility, comfort and sophistication, timeless and seasonal touches.
This September, what does your home need most?
A calming retreat for quiet mornings?
A bold, energizing space for family gatherings?
Or perhaps a mix of both?
We’ve been busy with a mix of wrapping up a big photo shoot (hi Grant Park project!), lots of on-site consultations, several discovery calls discussing some exciting potential projects, and getting started on a big primary bathroom renovation for some return clients. We’re looking forward to cooler temps and helping clients get the most out of their homes.
